Old Town

This approximately 6,200-square-foot property offered a blank canvas, giving us the freedom to bring the homeowners’ vision fully to life. That vision centered on an easy-going, rustic landscape—one designed to soften the hard lines of the existing perimeter wall and create a warmer, more organic sense of place.

The design balances privacy and openness, screening views to the neighbors while preserving the property’s stunning mountain vistas. Native plants were chosen throughout to minimize maintenance and create habitat for local wildlife, while passive water harvesting techniques put rainwater runoff to good use rather than letting it go to waste.

To bring their vision to life, a diverse palette of native plants with staggered bloom times were chosen to support a host of birds and pollinators.

We added three guajillo trees, whose feathery leaves added a soft beauty and welcome shade in the heat of the day.

By carefully contouring the soil, we were able to capture 4,245 gallons of rainwater runoff on-site—water that now nourishes the new plantings and reduces the need for supplemental irrigation.

A bubbling urn water feature was incorporated to offer birds a reliable water source, adding both movement and life to the space.

Outdoor cooking and dining areas, a fire pit, and a water feature complete the space, creating an inviting rustic retreat built for everyday relaxation and gathering.
